Following the release of her latest single (which you can read about here!), we caught up with singer Tiggi Hawke to get the low-down on ‘Me Too’. The song itself feels exciting and fresh, whilst at the same time still portraying a serious and important message. We love it!
Hey Tiggi! How has your week been?
It’s been incredible, thank you! Hectic and nerve-wracking but unbelievably rewarding, I couldn’t ask for better family, friends and fans, they’ve made this week amazing.
How would you describe Me Too in 3 words?
Personal. Empowering. Emotional.
Why is Me Too important to you?
I wrote Me Too based on my own experiences but I wrote it after being inspired by all the people who have come forward as part of the ‘Me Too’ movement and have shared their stories to promote change and awareness. I have been empowered by them and Me Too is my way of sharing my story and showing my support for them.
What is your favourite part of the process when creating a song?
It’s impossible to choose… I love the writing process, it’s very introspective and liberating, and the recording process is the moment when you see it start to come together. The release is the culmination of everything, with loads of work from many different people, and it’s such a great feeling to see it completed!
What is your favourite lyric from Me Too, and why?
It would have to be ‘What would your mama say’; it’s a question that I wanted to ask certain people many, many times and always wondering what the answer would be. I’ve very sure I’m not the only one who wants to know that either! It’s almost saying, well you don’t seem to care, but what about your mother? What would she think of your actions? And sadly, if she were to be asked, she would have probably experienced something similar herself.<
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
I take inspiration from so many people, professionally and personally, but one artist who stands out to me at the moment is Lady Gaga. She is the embodiment of a strong woman and she’s not afraid to share her stories and stand up for people. Her most recent music is very raw and open, I love her style of writing and her new direction.
What more can we expect from Tiggi Hawke in 2018?
More music and more gigs, 2 of my most favourite things! I have loads of new music to share with you all in the next few months, I’m so excited! And I’m squeezing in as many gigs as possible, I love performing live and having that connection with people.
How can fans keep up to date with your news?
I post everything (a lot.) on my FB, Twitter and Instagram (@tiggihawke) so keep an eye on it for dates and new music, I’d love to see you guys at my next gigs!
