Hootie & The Blowfish drummer, Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, unveils “No Reason,” featuring Edwin McCain, a track from the forthcoming album, Snowman Melting – 15th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, slated to drop September 29 via Vere Music.
An expanded new edition of Sonefeld’s 2008 solo debut album, Snowman Melting is co-produced with former Atlantic labelmate Francis Dunnery. “No Reason” follows on the heels of Soni’s well-received release of “Sitting in the Green Grass,” featuring Darius Rucker.
The new single, a reflection on that sweet romantic jam about falling head over heels in love, pulls you in with an infectious chorus characteristic of Soni’s songwriting throughout his career, combined with McCain’s soaring vocals.
Soni arrived in 1994 when Hootie & The Blowfish released their debut long player, Cracked Rear View, which launched the band to international stardom and became the ninth best-selling album of all time in the U.S. The band followed by releasing six subsequent albums, collecting multiple awards, including two GRAMMYS®.
Along with being a songwriter, author, and solo artist, Soni desires to share the gift of recovery with others through his story and his music.
“No Reason” opens on gleaming guitars topped by McCain’s rich, clear vocals narrating there’s no reason why anyone should live without love. Delicious, gospel-tinted harmonies imbue the tune with radiant depth and dimension as McCain’s delicious voice elevates to a satisfying, opulent falsetto, giving the lyrics passionate warmth and intensity.
“Now there’s a girl out there and she lives on her own / She’s trying to fill a void in her empty heart / She’s trying hard but she never seems to fall in love / But she dreams all day and she dreams all night / She’s trying to imagine there’s a man in her life … There’s no reason anybody should live without love.”
With “No Reason,” Jim “Soni” Sonefeld and Edwin McCain team up to craft an alluring, positive song about the magical power of love.
