Joe and Jake are back with a brand new single, and it’s safe to say that we’re already obsessed with it.
‘Tongue Tied’ is the duo’s second single, following on from their UK Eurovision entry ‘You’re Not Alone’ which was released last year. Whilst ‘You’re Not Alone’ had a Coldplay-esque anthemic vibe to it, ‘Tongue Tied’ is a fresh, uptempo offering with elements of an acoustic sound.
The opening bars of guitar in ‘Tongue Tied’ are enough to hook us instantly, and that’s before Joe and Jake have sung a word. Of course, once we heard the first lyric, ‘First time that I saw you, you took my breath away’, we fell even deeper in love. The song is so catchy, and we guarantee you’ll be screaming the lyrics word for word in no time.
There is a great vibe during this uptempo track, and we love the progression from the acoustic sounding verse, to the clapping during the bridge, to the strong chorus which makes us want to dance our troubles away.
Joe and Jake also excel vocally during the track. Joe has an awesome pop voice, whilst Jake’s voice has a gorgeous gravelly tone to it. Together, they sound even more incredible. Whilst we love their voices individually, this is a partnership that works perfectly.
We challenge you not to be hooked from the off! Take a listen to ‘Tongue Tied’ below.
Joe Woolford and Jake Shakeshaft first came to our attention when they met on series four of The Voice UK in 2015. They competed against each other during the show, with Joe on Rita Ora’s team and Jake on will.i.am’s team. Jake was eliminated during the knockout round, whilst Joe progressed to the live show before being eliminated in week two.
The pair became friends during the show and remained close after the series came to an end. Joe and Jake eventually decided to pair up to form a duo, and entered Eurovision: You Decide, in order to win the chance to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016. The duo were the most popular with the public and were chosen to represent the country in Stockholm. Joe and Jake performed ‘You’re Not Alone’ in the final on May 14 and came 24th in the competition.
Whilst they may not have received the Eurovision success that they deserved, Joe and Jake have continued to work tirelessly on new music and performing at gigs since the competition ended.
‘Tongue Tied’ is the perfect follow up to ‘You’re Not Alone’, and we’ve got a good feeling that it’s the song to catapult them to new heights. We’re excited to see what 2017 has in store for Joe and Jake!
