Actor and director John Krasinski has officially confirmed the release date for the sequel to A Quiet Place. He took to his Instagram to announce that the sequel will be hitting the big screen on May 15, 2020.
He has given away no secrets about the sequel after the first film’s success in April but he did reveal to E! News last year that he had already writing the script.
“I’m writing the script now,” Krasinski told E! News last November in Los Angeles. “So if it’s any good, maybe we’ll make it.”
And indeed they have! Along with a teaser photo, Krasinski wrote to his followers, “…time to go back. #PartII 5-15-20.”
Krasinski also wrote, directed and starred in the first movie alongside his wife, Emily Blunt. He has kept tight-lipped about whether Blunt will be starring in the sequel, neither confirming or denying. “I don’t know, we’ll have to see,” Krasinski said. “We’ll have to see who’s in it.”
It was only last month that Emily won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her role in her husband’s film. She thanked Krasinski with a heartfelt, poignant speech which moved him (and us!) to tears.
Last year, Krasinski talked about acting in the hit movie with his wife to Men’s Health. “I said to Emily, ‘There’s no greater gift that the universe could have given me than to go through the biggest success of my career and I don’t have to explain to you how it felt.’ We were both in the boat.”
“I said to her ‘I don’t know if it can ever be like this again.’ And—again, leave it to Emily, who is better at everything than me—she goes, ‘It can’t.’ She just so perfectly encapsulated it.”
“‘It can’t be like this again, and it shouldn’t. So take this and put it on a mantel, this really special treasure that we experienced together. And now go out and do something else.'”
“I know I’ll never do another movie that’s this successful, this original, this underdog-y, and then on top of it have it be with my wife every step of the way.”
Nope, we’re not jealous at all… okay, maybe a little bit! Either way, we are so excited to hear that a sequel is coming to our theatres in the near future.
