Joss Whedon has recently stepped away from the director’s chair after The Avengers: Age of Ultron apparently broke him but is it possible he might return to Marvel Studios once more?
Well, according to Whedon himself, it is very possible.. on one condition. Make more female-driven movies!
The director mentioned that he would be interested in working with Marvel again, specifically to make female-driven franchises, according to The Wrap.
“Yeah, of course. Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants.” Whedon told The Wrap.
Captain Marvel is an upcoming film which Whedon is not part of. Nevertheless, he seems very excited about a female character finally getting the spotlight on the big screen which she deserves especially as she is in what seems a very male dominated world.
He credited Kevin Feige for finally getting Captain Marvel to eventually come to life.
“Kevin Feige fought a mighty fight to get her on the schedule. So it’s a start. You could say that should be a middle, but it’s a start.”
Whedon is currently writing his own original screenplay about “a girl who goes through some unbelievable sh*t” which sounds very intriguing!
Some people believe that his comments are criticisms about Marvel Studios because their successful films have all been heavily male-driven but it was also thought he was referring to Hollywood as a whole.
So, Whedon is not interested in coming back for anything right now but with a few female films in the works at Marvel Studios, such as Captain Marvel and a possible solo Black Widow movie in the future, he might just return to the director’s chair.
What do you think of Whedon’s comments? Would you like to see him return as director?
