Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll commonly known by stage name “Kygo” became the fastest artist to cross the one billion play mark on Spotify ever.
Surpassing one billion streams, Kygo is now the 20th most streamed artist on Spotify, a streaming service with around 14 million monthly listeners. Achieving such a milestone in just a year, Kygo is definitely an artist to watch.
A Norwegian DJ and a music producer, Kygo garnered international attention after he released the remix track of Ed Sheeran’s song “I See Fire”. Though famous for his remixes of Avicii and Coldplay tracks, the stream came from his recently released singles. His single “Firestone” released in 2014, has been played 336 million times while “Steal the show”, released this year has been streamed 305 million times.
“Stay”, a single released on December 4th has already been played 4 million times. Remarkable indeed!
Music Times reported his statement reacting to the overwhelming response of the listeners,
“Reaching this milestone in such a short period of time is really incredible and I’d like to say thank you to each and every person who streamed one of my songs this past year. I’m so happy people have enjoyed listening to my tracks and I can’t wait to share my album with you all early next year”.
Commenting on Kygo’s achievement, Edgar Berger, chairman and CEO International, Sony Music Entertainment to the Wall Street Journal said
“Kygo is one of the first artists to break world-wide via streaming.[That] speaks volumes to the unique ways global streaming services are borderless.”
