Lady Gaga and Diane Warren truly did create a beautiful song entitled ‘Til It Happens To You’ for the documentary film The Hunting Ground.
The song’s orchestral production fused with Lady Gaga’s soaring vocals made everything come to life and gave it an emotionally packed punch. Warren added that the songs message doesn’t only relate to terms of rape culture but “that the song’s message was universal in nature and relatable to any loss faced in life”.
Critics agreed with many calling the message and song “powerful”, “speechless” and by Rolling Stone as an “evocative track”.
Both Warren and Gaga have been victims of rape and using lyricism and song to evoke such deep emotional breakage has led the song to inspire others to speak out. Rape is what it is, and people need to accept that it’s effect towards people (regardless of age, gender) is truly disgusting and troubling.
But with tracks like “Til It Happens To You”, Warren and Gaga have created an outlet for people to share a perhaps deep secret that’s lived in their heads for years on years.
Whether it’s through music, public speaking, or film, “Til It Happens To You” will remain an important stepping stone for the cry of people everywhere who have yet to speak out on their personal life demons.
Thank you ladies for being advocates for such an important issue that shouldn’t be ignored one bit.
Lady Gaga didn’t win an Academy Award and that’s okay – what matters most is that her performance moved audiences around the world and the message successfully sent.
