Last night, 15 year old Australian talent, Ruel, took to the stage at a sold out OMEARA for his debut London show as he proved that he has the style, sound and stage presence to be the next teen icon.

After signing with Sony (RCA) last year, he intertwined a soulful energy into a commercial pop vibe in his latest EP ‘Ready’, making him more than just the average pop teen.

His music boasts a level of maturity unmatched by his peers as he effortlessly captures a unique sound comparable to Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber whilst creating his own lane.

The night, in the packed out urban sanctuary OMEARA, kicked off with south London singer/songwriter Jaz Karis who took to the stage sending a buzz throughout the room.
Her 20 minute set consisted of some impressive original RnB material immersed among some classic covers such as a soothing rendition of the late Amy Whinehouse’s hit ‘Back to Black’.

Jaz had a warming presence and a smile which lit up the venue as she left her heart and soul on the stage before thanking the crowd and exiting.

After a short intermission, it was Ruel’s moment to shine as he commenced his set with M-Phazes collaboration ‘Golden Years’ before pouring his heart into EP tracks such as ‘Dazed and Confused’ and ‘Not Thinkin’ Bout You’.

The teen owned the stage with ease, commanding the attention of all 350 attendees in the diverse crowd.

Standout highlights were performances of his emotion fuelled ‘Say’ and his set closer ‘Younger’ along with covers of the mesmerisingly unconventional Billie Eilish’s ‘Bellyache’ and Kanye West’s powerful ‘Ultralight Beam’.

Throughout the one hour set, there was nothing but high energy, good vibes and the epitome of talent which led to the perfect debut show – not to mention a great way for Ruel to celebrate his 16th birthday.

Overall the concert showcased his vocal range, creative talent and his artistic profile impeccably, making him an undoubted force to be reckoned with.

    Rating: 4/5
