Liverpool FC have today officially unveiled their fourth summer signing; Ragnar Klavan.
The 30-year-old Estonian defender joins Liverpool from Augsburg in a 4.2m move and has signed a three-year contract.
Klavan is Jurgen Klopp’s fourth signing of the summer as he looks to build his own squad after taking over at Anfield in October 2015.
Ragnar who will wear the number 17 shirt, follows new signings; Sadio Mane, Loris Karius, and Joel Matip in joining Anfield this transfer window.
Speaking to the official Liverpool FC website about playing in front of the famous Kop crowd the Estonia captain said: “I think it’s more the feeling you get when you walk on the pitch.
“It’s a compact stadium, but there’s so much history in there, this is what excites me more.
“These days a lot of teams have really new stadiums which look good and everything is clean; but Anfield, it’s not the newest, but it’s the place to be.”
Ragar Klavan has enjoyed a long playing career with various clubs but Liverpool will be his first Premier League team.
The 30-year-old started his playing career at the age of 15 at Estonian side Elva and then went on to win the league and domestic super cup with Tallinn-based Flora in 2003.
He then spent four seasons playing in the Netherlands’s with Heracles Almelo and AZ, winning the Eredivisie title with the latter under Louis van Gaal in the 2008/09 season after joining on loan in January ahead of a permanent switch.
During the second half of the 2008/09 season, Klavan formed a key part of the toughest defence in the division and helped AZ secure a club-record 28-game unbeaten run.
The centre-back then moved on to the Bundesliga in 2012 joining Augsburg, where he has become a mainstay in their backline, making over 30 league appearances in each of his four seasons at the club.
Klavan will now become defensive cover for Jurgen Klopp’s defence.
