Celebrating Jamaican Independence Day with their incredible new single is Marcilli and Antaeus with “DONE (Breakup Anthem)” featuring Natalis. They’ve also dropped an awesome music video to accompany the release of the single. This acts as the follow-up to Marcilli’s 2021 single “Vibe”; Antaeus’ collaboration with Yaksta on the single “I Will Never (Tribal Future House Remix)”; and Natalis’ single “I Could Fall In Love”.
Marcilli (they/them) is one of the hottest and most unique new talents to emerge out of Jamaica’s fertile music scene, fusing pop with R&B and a variety of different genres to create iconic tracks. Inspired by the edgier bits of Billie Eilish, Rihanna, Suga of BTS, and R&B icon Daniel Caesar, Marcilli is one of the first and few openly queer-identified Jamaican artists, coming out of a strict cultural heritage that often remains hostile to members of the LGBTQ community. Straight out of the Caribbean, the Jamaican singer/songwriter describes her sound as a blend of Tropical Pop and Neo-Soul, perfectly meshing her island roots and love of the international Soul sound. Since Marcilli’s 2020 debut, she has released a variety of singles that shows off her versatility. Her strong background in stage and Musical Theatre combine to allow her to deliver powerful performances in a trademark sweet and airy voice. In addition to Marcilli’s dreamy voice, her capable pen overall brings her listeners on a journey through her inner-most thoughts and feelings. The young artist has dreams of reaching international notoriety as achieved by her biggest musical influences including K-Pop group BTS, pop artist Billie Eilish and R&B singer Daniel Caesar.
As for Antaeus, he is a multi-talented artist, award-winning composer, and producer, who is also known as Alexx Antaeus. Armed with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Industry, he holds the esteemed position of a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the governing body for the GRAMMY awards. Throughout his illustrious career, Antaeus has collaborated with an eclectic mix of artists, including Young M.C., Falco, Lonnie Gordon, Malcolm McLaren, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, The Rolling Stones, The Boys, Herbert Gronemeyer, and Earth, Wind & Fire. His work has been recognised with numerous gold and platinum plaques. Beyond his collaborations, Antaeus has also produced remarkable personal albums like “Byzantine Meditation”, “World Prayer”, and “zero4”, showcasing his expertise in blending various genres and musical elements. His creativity and talent have earned him praise and airplay, solidifying his presence in the international music world. When not immersed in music, Antaeus divides his time between his recording studio in Manhattan, New York, and OPA!, his restaurant in Kingston, Jamaica, making him an artist with a unique and captivating story.
Then there’s Natalis, full name Natalis Ruby Rubero, who is a captivating singer-songwriter hailing from the Bronx, NY. She shines brightly with her multi-platinum accolades and double Grammy nominations. Her musical journey was deeply influenced by her Puerto Rican roots and the rich musical heritage of her grandparents and father, all talented musicians. Turning to music as a source of healing, Natalis poured her emotions into heartfelt poetry, which eventually blossomed into powerful lyrics. Her dreams of performing on stage alongside her musical idols came true, as she lent her angelic voice as a background vocalist on albums like J. Cole’s “Born Sinner” and Kanye West’s “Yeezus”. Notably, Natalis’ songwriting prowess shone through on the international hit “Fuego” by Eleni Foureira, which came send at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Her collaborations with The Rumba Kings further showcase her remarkable talent and vibrant artistry. With a trail of success behind her, Natalis continues to make her mark on the music world with her soul-stirring vocals and evocative storytelling.

Talking about the track, Marcilli said: “Writing this song was born out of some serious heartbreak and disappointment, but seeing it evolve into the project it is today, gives me such a boost of encouragement. Honestly, it’s one of the things I’m most proud of so far, and I really hope it can inspire others to set their own boundaries and know their damn worth.”
Written by Marcilli, Antaeus, and Natalis, while it was produced by Alex Antaeus, “DONE (Breakup Anthem)” is an addictive pop track that has flowing R&B vibes and a Latin twist with the help of Natalis. Sure to get stuck in your head, this track is powerful really allowing Marcilli to make an impact and a statement – allowing them to own their independence. Full of self-confidence and self-worth, this is a breakup anthem and a half, easily one that will make it’s way onto our playlists. Natalis also manages to shine on the track for her verse that brings a Latin-pop flavour to the track, she is also fully aware that the spotlight needs to be on Marcilli and she does a brilliant job of making sure she does, as we need more positive LGBTQ+ representatives across the world, and more incredible allies like Natalis.
As for the music video, directed by Damaniac Visualz, we watch Marcilli and Natalis perform this awesome song giving incredible stage and camera presence. Owning theirself, and determined to let them know that they are done with the relationship, Marcilli shines completely, giving a fierce, strong, and sassy attitude, that is backed up by her girls who take part in the circling scenes. Natalis jumps on and shows off the star she is, but once again, she makes sure that the spotlight is on Marcilli all the way through – can Natalis be our ally friend too? Overall, a brilliant music video that effortlessly relates to the gorgeous song, launching Marcilli into the rising star that they are.
