Recently, Marvel Studios announced the names of the new cast that will be joining their 2017 installment of the ‘Thor’ series, Thor: Ragnarok.
These names include the two time Academy Award winner, Cate Blanchett, who will be playing the primary new villain, Hela. She is joined by Jeff Goldblum, who will play the Grandmaster – who is an extremely powerful person and uses his power to his own pleasure. Tessa Thompson, will be playing the hero Valkyrie and Karl Urban, will be entering the universe playing Skurge.
Joining the new cast, will be Mark Ruffalo, who will be reprising his role as The Hulk (Bruce Banner), as seen in “The Avengers.”
A statement by Marvel’s president, Kevin Feige, stated that “The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet,” He added “The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honour, and having all of them is incredible.”
The new cast members will be joining the usual faces of the Thor series, Chris Hemsworth (who will also be appearing in the new Ghostbusters film later this year), playing Thor, Tom Hiddlestone, as Thor’s adopted brother Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Sir Anthony Hopkins and Odin.
It’s safe to say, that with a cast like this, the film is sure to be a hit.
Ragnarok will be directed by the Academy Award nominated filmmaker, Taika Waititi, who is known for such things as “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”.
