The fans’ running complaints about Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow not having her own standalone movie can finally come to an end, as Marvel have agreed to making the project happen!
The studio have hired female screenwriter, Jac Schaeffer, to write the script for the upcoming untitled Black Widow movie. This is a huge step forward for female led movies and we can’t wait to see what Jac and the studio come up with! This is Jac’s first time screenwriting for the Marvel universe and has previously written the script for ‘Olaf’s Frozen Adventure’.
The movie is still in the development stages and has had no green light as of yet, but the fact that Marvel is taking this seriously and is developing the movie is a huge deal, considering Scarlett Johansson has been playing this character for eight years. She joined the franchise in 2010, appearing in Iron Man 2 and then went on to be the supporting role in the Avengers movies, with male heroes in the lead.
Marvel’s female hero standalone movies began in 2014, when they announced that Captain Marvel would be getting her own standalone movie, with Brie Larson playing the leading role.
Phase three of the Marvel franchise is currently running through until 2019, meaning a Black Widow movie will be expected possibly in phase four? We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!
