Mckenna Grace has marked her 18th birthday with the release of her pop/punk-inspired single “LOSER!!”. Produced by David Burris and co-written by Mckenna Grace, David Burris, and Kella Armitage, this angst-filled track perfectly blends internal dialogue and social awkwardness that fans have come to adore and expect from Mckenna Grace.
Accompanying the single, Mckenna has shared a high school prom-inspired music video. Directed by Justin Mitchell and Lottie Abrahams, the video humorously captures the essence of prom night, with Mckenna adorned with a corsage and an electric guitar. The video navigates through all the quintessential prom night emotions, from angst and exuberance to friendship. Quick cut scenes showcase intimate girl talk in the bathroom, playful antics in the back seat of a limo, and culminate in a joyful celebration of embracing one’s inner “loser”.
Reflecting on the release, Mckenna explains that she wrote this about feeling like a loser, a wannabe, unoriginal. “I wanted to create something fun and rocky because that’s where my heart lies in music,” Mckenna says. “This song is self-aware and playful, wishing I was a cool 90s rock chick.”
The line ‘rot on my couch thinking about everything I’m not’ is quite literal. I broke my own heart, got sick, and spent a week crying on my couch while watching ‘The Bachelor.’
