Ontario, Canada-based singer-songwriter, pianist, and guitarist Mel Monaco recently unveiled her new single/music video, “Love Tides,” a song reminding listeners to let go of worries and enjoy life.
Monaco shares, “‘Love Tides’ is all about embracing the summer sunshine and celebrating love! With so much going on in the world, it can sometimes be difficult to remember that life is beautiful, and we have so much to rejoice in, especially when you’re on a boat! We’ve been digging our sound lately, and we like to call it yacht pop!”
In?uenced by her musical and creative family, at the age of 18, Monaco established her goal: to write and release five records prior to the age of 30. Not even close to 30, Monaco has already attained her goal of six records, along with much more, including receiving the 2019 St. Catherine’s Emerging Artist Award, performing at Canal Days and the Horseshoe Tavern, and sharing the stage with Blue Rodeo, as delivering a sold-out New Year’s Eve performance at The First Ontario Performing Arts Centre.
Recorded at Impression Recording Studio, and produced by Brent Setterington, who also plays keyboards and percussion, “Love Tides” features the talents of Marcus Gazzellone (drums), Mike Cecchini (guitar), Joe Cool (bass), Dave Watson (flute), and Cynthia Konopka (violin).
Monaco’s breezy, signature music blends elements of R&B, jazz, soul, funk, and pop into a sound she calls “yacht pop.”
“Love Tides” opens on creamy, dreamy emerging tones flowing into a funk-lite rhythm topped by Monaco’s sassy, sensual vocals, imbuing the lyrics with luscious flavors of effervescent R&B. Savors of soul and jazz infuse the harmonics with surfaces vaguely reminiscent of Steely Dan, only with more vibrant tangs of pop.
Directed by Adam Stephenson, the video depicts Monaco aboard a yacht, relishing the warm sunshine with a company of friends.
A stylish feel-good tune, “Love Tides” takes listeners on a scrumptious tropical musical trip, highlighted by the evocative voice of Mel Monaco.
