What a year its been for 20 year old singer/songwriter Melanie Martinez. Ever since being on The Voice USA back in 2012, she’s proved her talent should not go unnoticed. 2014 was a big year for Melanie, as she got signed to a major record label ‘Atlanta Records’ and the release of her Dollhouse EP. However, let’s reminisce what this year has meant for her career.
In January and February, she was busy on her Dollhouse Tour, touring around major places in the US, like New York, Philadelphia and Boston. Even though the Dollhouse EP was released in May of 2014, the song was still floating around the Top 40 Chart on American radio stations.
The next couple of months, she was still busy doing as many gigs as she could in the States. However, on June 2nd she released the first single ‘Pity Party’ off her then upcoming album Cry Baby, but dropped the video for it on June 1st. The track reached its peak position of 22 in the Billboard Alternative Digital Songs. The
video was unfortunately leaked three days prior to its actual release date, but Melanie admitted it was a ‘fun experience for her’.

The rest of the year became extremely exciting for Melanie, as in July she released two songs from Cry Baby. The first being ‘Soap’ released on July 10th, which got a much better reception from the public as it peaked at 12th place on the Billboard Alternative Digital Songs Chart. The track was premiered exclusively on ELLE magazine, and Melanie released the video on the same day!

A couple weeks later, the single ‘Sippy Cup’ debuted on July 31st, which has since then been streamed over 8 million times on Spotify.
August was arguably the most important month in her calendar, as her highly anticipated album was finally released on August 14th. Cry Baby debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart with 40,000 copies sold in its first week. It also debuted at the top of the Alternative Albums Chart. Make sure you give it a listen on iTunes or Spotify if you haven’t already.
In September, Melanie was included in Rolling Stone‘s list of ‘New Artists You Need to Know’, which helped her popularity increase significantly. She also started playing shows right through September for her Cry Baby Tour, which actually began late August.
The Cry Baby Tour ended in November, proving to be extremely successful as almost all of the shows were more or less sold out. On December 5th, it was confirmed that Melanie’s next single would be ‘Mad Hatter’ much to the approval of her rapidly-growing fanbase.
2015 was definitely a stand out year for Melanie, as she was given the chance to showcase her true potential, and she definitely didn’t disappoint. Congratulations Melanie, we hope 2016 is just as good, and if not, better.
