Brooklyn-based DJ and electronic producer MELVV, aka Jeff Melvin, dropped his new single, “When I’m With You” a few days ago.
“When I’m With You” marks MELVV’s first release as an independent artist, having been with Atlantic Records until 2021.
MELVV says, “I’m really excited to be an independent artist for the first time since I was 19. Over the past five years, I’ve put together a catalog that didn’t quite fit in with my major label releases; ‘When I’m With You’ is the first of these.”
Talking about “When I’m With You,” MELVV shares, “This song is for several things. It’s for my girlfriend, my family, and my friends for being there for me when we all got stuck inside; for the feeling of being at shows, looking over to the person next to you and knowing you both feel the same thing; and for the nostalgia of times spent together when you’re away.”
Initially, the song dropped as editions of NFTs via web3 platform sound.xyz, followed by being released across DSPs.
MELVV explains, “After being a supporter of sound.xyz since the beginning, I’m stoked to be able to drop this record with them as a series of NFTs. This additional release will help fund future projects, as well as give the fans an extra collectible to hold on to.”
With more than 100 million streams, after the release of “Not Me” and “Lifeline,” MELVV signed with Atlantic Records, releasing singles such as “Heatwave” with More Giraffes and “Nectarines” with Royal & The Serpent, followed by touring, including sharing the stage with Petit Biscuit and his headlining tour, Stress Relief.
MELVV has performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Electric Forest, as well as sharing the stage with Jai Wolf, San Holo, Louis The Child, Big Gigantic, and Hippie Sabotage.
“When I’m With You” opens on washes of strident, discordant textures flowing into a throbbing rhythm topped by oscillating colors and piano-driven leitmotifs. Shimmering layers of streaming, percolating, and sparkling hues infuse the tune with rising tiers of enticing dance music.
At once contagious and complexly tinted, “When I’m With You” delivers alluring overlays of sound brimming with iridescent energy.
