We all remember those classic goofy teenage comedies from the early 2000s like Not Another Teen Movie and American Pie. Also, with those movies, there is a specific style of music we think of. For example most people when reminiscing on the first American Pie, Harvey Danger’s “Flagpole Sitta” comes to mind. Brooklyn-based project Middle Part has crafted an anthem “Get Fixed” that could easily fall in that realm. With rowdy guitars and thrashing drums along with moody vocals, there is a fierce intensity to the track that draws the listener in. The piece ponders on past mistakes and the trials of aging. With lines like “I miss my old bed, the red one in a car shape, I liked that and when I sober up I just get so sad alone inside a room with all my old friends, I hate this,” make Middle Part’s release so easy to connect to. Getting older can be a tough pill to swallow and “Get Fixed” beautifully conveys that struggle. The song is a decadent alternative meets grunge pop tune that lingers in your head.
Andy Selk?w is the brainchild behind Middle Part. Selk?w has seen success with other melancholy hits “Busy” and “& Cry”. The bold artist takes influence from the 90s and the early 2000s concocting what he calls “unconventional pop”. Inspired by iconic talents like Alanis Morisette and Third Eye Blind, his music exudes a familiar longing that fans take solace in. “Get Fixed” is the opening song off of his highly awaited debut album Disruptor which possesses that air of nostalgia.
