The MTV Video Music Awards, or MTV VMAs 2022, will return to the stage this year in all its glory, with all its show-stopping spectacle and extravaganza on August 28. All the music buffs around the globe are eagerly waiting for this splendid evening, so with no further adieu, let’s get into this year’s nominations and everything that you should know.

The MTV VMAs 2022 celebrates the best music videos of the past year and feature unforgettable performances, tributes and appearances from the biggest stars in music. The much-awaited award night will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. There are already plenty of high-profile performances slated for the night, along with recognizing the industry’s best and most impactful talent and awarding the year’s best and most influential music videos.

In the meantime, find all the nominations for this year’s VMAs below! For the first time in the show’s 39-year history, MTV widened the number of nominees for its top award, Video of the Year, followed by other prestigious award categories—Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Alternative—each counting seven artists in individual categories.

We are certain Lil Nas X felt euphoric (and did a happy dance) when he first got to know that he received seven nods for the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards nominations. This puts him in a tie for the lead with Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar, as both hip-hop artists received seven nominations each. “Kiss Me More” singer, Doja Cat became the top female nominee of this year and joins Grammy-winning artist, Harry Styles, each of whom received six nods. Massive artists such as Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd received five nominations each. K-pop phenom BTS became the most nominated group/duo, with four nods in total.

Well, the happy spree doesn’t just end here, as Bad Bunny is the first Latin artist to be nominated for Artist of the Year. There are 26 first-time nominees this year, so there’s a good chance that you’ll see more fresh and familiar faces on the red carpet and in the award run. The nominations for new artists did not come as a surprise to us because of their impeccable talent and successful music releases this year. The nominees for Best New Artist are Baby Keem, Dove Cameron, GAYLE, Latto, Måneskin, and Seventeen.

There’s also a new category added this year—Best Metaverse Performance. Nominations for social categories, including Group of the Year and Song of Summer, will be announced at a later date.

Starting Tuesday, fans can vote for their favourite artists across 22 gender-neutral categories online by visiting vote.mtv.com. Voting closes Friday, Aug. 19 except for the category: Best New Artist. Voting in that category will remain active in the telecast on Sunday, August 28.
