New York City-based indie-pop/alternative outfit Sweetboy unveils their new single, “Day In The Park,” the title track from their forthcoming album.

According to Sweetboy, “Day In The Park” is “about reminiscing about the past without regrets. It questions if time might not be as significant as we think when we’re looking back at important events and relationships. It’s about honoring the idea that life is not just a linear progression where one moment erases the other, or one love erases another love, but that all moments can be meaningful and cherished.”

The inspiration for the song came from a poem by frontwoman Anna Barnett, who wrote about the feeling of being in the sunshine at a park and thinking about everything that’s ever happened to her; feeling it all at once, feeling that it’s so consequential as it is inconsequential at the same time.

Sweetboy’s sound blends quirky dynamics, elevated melodies, indie-pop energy, and late ‘90s angst with hints of introspective Americana. It’s a sound influenced by artists such as Regina Spektor, Paul Simon, The Killers, Elton John, and Blondie.

Anna Barnett explains, “We’re not much more than nerdy music lovers. We’re just trying to figure out the most interesting, authentic, and exciting ways to turn our feelings into songs.”

Primarily recorded with producer Torna in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with contributing work from Jack Hoffman and Tor Miller, the upcoming album embraces an array of themes, including loss, change, and transformation, all filtered through the healing and human art of self-reflection.

Sweetboy will be releasing new material through November, leading up to the release of Day in the Park. They plan to tour after the album’s release and into 2024, including a performance at the historic Underwater Sunshine Festival at Bowery Electric, New York City, on November 11 & 12.

“Day In The Park” opens on gentle, gleaming guitars topped by Barnett’s soft, evocative vocals. A strumming guitar bridge announces the song’s arrival, moussing up to a vibrant pushing rhythm tinted with flavors of Americana and punk-lite elements.

There’s a delicious, subtle quality to Barnett’s voice, revealing tangs of singular inflections and an enigmatic way of phrasing that imbues the lyrics with wickedly alluring tones.

With “Day In The Park,” Sweetboy comes into its own, establishing itself as a stellar band to keep an eye on. If the rest of the album is half as good as the title track, it should be a humdinger.
