If you’re not familiar with Nasty Cherry yet, you need to get familiar.
The four-piece alt-rock girlband, founded by none other than future-of-pop figurehead Charli XCX, have been churning out dreamy rock tracks from the Hollywood hills.
‘Live Forever’ is the latest taste of Cherry goodness. XCX lends a hand on co-writing, whilst Justin Raisen (see XCX’s Sucker & True Romance and Sky Ferreira’s Night Time, My Time) comes on for production. “My life’s too rock and roll, Everybody thinks that I lost control”, Gabriette murmurs over the retro-sounding rock before kicking into a fist-pumping chorus.
Chloe Chaidez, Georgia Somary and Debbie Knox-Hewson make up the rest of the Cherry line-up who describe their sound as, “driving fast late at night in the rain listening to New Order and the Runaways with your date” and recall their first gig going down something a little like: “Gabby slipped on roses, Chloe got on someone’s shoulders, Debbie was very drunk and my friends heckled. It was great.”
Boasting a sound that lands somwehere between Paramore and HAIM, with a fresh attitude of their own, Nasty Cherry have already seen singles ‘Win‘ and ‘What Do You Like In Me‘ pull in big streaming numbers on services and receive support from the likes of Rolling Stone, PAPER and NME as heads keep turning.
Recently announced as the next act to take to NME’s GIRLS TO THE FRONT shows in London on Monday 23rd September, the news follows sold-out debut shows State-side.
