Earlier today, a new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse was dropped and it shows a more complex, intense and violent world of mutants. Empire has also unveiled its new X-Men covers here and they are really, really cool but this trailer has shown more of the almighty power of Oscar Isaac as the mutant, Apocalypse.
Oscar is playing a god that has a huge appetite for destruction and makes even the mightiest mutants seem inadequate in his presence.
This film will be following the awakening of Oscar’s Apocalypse in 1983 and we will see his reaction to Earth in the present which is significantly different to what he thought it would be. Because of this, he does what any awesomely powerful mutant would do: try to change it in a very radical way. But this does not go down well with the X-Men, led by Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).
This film also finds the First Class gang in various ways, both physically and mentally. Charles Xavier is now running his school for gifted youngsters while Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) is off on her own mission and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) is living a quiet life…at least, he is until Apocalypse comes calling.
Bryan Singer breaks down the last trailer to Empire and explains just what is really angering Apocalypse so much “[Humanity] bears no respect or devotion to him – that’s the big giant ego of the old god. All of it lacks symmetry, order and devotion to him. It needs to be culled. It needs to be wiped away and rebuilt again.”
Apocalypse comes with some reinforcements too, the Four Horsemen. His recruits are Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel/Archangel (Ben Hardy), Magneto and Psylocke (Olivia Munn).
Some other familiar names will be appearing as their younger selves; Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jubilee (Lana Condor), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Havok (Lucas Till) as well as the return of some much loved characters; Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Quicksilver (Evan Peters).
