The 2019 Ivor Novello Awards nominations have been announced with popular acts The 1975, Jorja Smith & George Ezra all being recognised for their work over the past 12 months.
The 1975 and Smith are both up for ‘Best Contemporary Song’, whilst Ezra sees his hit single ‘Shotgun’ nominated in the ‘PRS For Music Most Performed Work’ category.
Following wins at last years ceremony by both Stormzy and Dave, and with Skepta named as songwriter of the year in 2017, Grime and U.K. Hip-Hop artists are once again being recognised with Ghetts and Dizze Rascal both acknowledged for their songwriting talents.
Praising this year’s nominees, The Ivors Academy chair Crispin Hunt said in a statement: “The works nominated for The Ivors 2019 are brilliantly diverse, and we’re delighted to see so many first-time nominees recognised.“
The Ivor Novello Awards recognise achievement in songwriting and, while they maybe lesser known to the public than the Brit Awards or Mercury Prize, they are highly respected and coveted by musicians.
