Just a few weeks after the release of her two-song package with Calvin Harris, Normani is back with another killer RnB jam.
‘Waves’, which features 6LACK, was unveiled as Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1 on Apple Music yesterday (November 15). Normani previously performed the track during her set at TIDAL X in Brooklyn last month.
The sultry offering sees Normani going through the motions of a tumultuous relationship. Whilst the on-off relationship isn’t good for her, the songstress finds it impossible to pull away and keeps going back for more.
First I blame you, then I want you, f–king hate you, then I love you
I can’t help myself, no
When I have you, wanna leave you, If you go, that’s when I need you
I can’t help myself, no
‘Waves’ shows off Normani’s impeccable soul-filled vocals whilst also adding a new depth to her as an artist. Delivering the track with an undeniable emotion which will resonate with many, the songstress has really found her groove with ‘Waves’. The added bonus of 6LACK’s perspective strengthens an already solid offering, with the pair bouncing off each other perfectly.
Speaking about working with 6LACK, Normani told Zane: “He’s such an important artist, and I’ve been following his journey for a while now, and we’re really big fans of each other. Our text messages pretty much look like we’re complimenting each other.
“I admire him as an artist, and he’s just … he’s amazing. He’s an amazing lyricist, and I feel like he took the record to a whole other level. I already love the record as is, but he totally exceeded any expectation I even had, which was pretty high, because I admire him as an artist.”
