Written by Joseph Jaemoon Lee and Olivia Caitlin Reid, whilst it has been produced by Jae Luna and Olivia Reid, “Wounds (Healing)” is a gentle pop ballad that fully showcases Olivia Reid’s incredible voice and deeply emotional lyrics. Fronted with addicting relaxing guitar melodies and jazz brass instruments, Olivia Reid’s soulful vocals flow as she allows the listeners to relate to every word to “Wounds (Healing)” as we hear about the difficulties we all go through when it comes to hurt and pain.
“I recognized how much I had to heal from, but simultaneously feared that truly healing it would leave an absence or a blankness in me,” Olivia Reid explains. “When I’m in fight or flight mode long enough, wounds in the form of anxiety or sadness can mistakenly feel like a crucial part of who I am. The wounds feel familiar, so starting the healing process made me feel so much weaker at first.”
She continues: “It’s a very introspective project, trying to describe how the journey to healing can feel so foreign and isolating, especially after traumatic experiences. There’s this illusion that some emotions are arcane or inexplicable, but this project is the result of me trying desperately to break those layered emotions down, to truly dissect and unpack them, and turn them into a form a listener could feel.”
