Ever since this year’s iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards were confirmed, fans of the show have been waiting with baited breath to find out who will be taking to the stage on the big night. Now with just under six weeks to go until the event is live, the first round of performers have been revealed and we couldn’t be more excited!
According to an official press release, the Canadian event will feature huge performances from Julia Michaels, Lorde, DNCE, Iggy Azalea, Imagine Dragons, and Jazz Cartier.
Seriously, we’re bouncing in our seats right now. The line-up so far sounds incredible and it is set to get even bigger as more performers are announced as the show draws closer.
“With our enduring commitment to bringing the best in music to Canadians, this initial announcement proves that there is no shortage of star power for the fans this year. From pop to rock to hip-hop, the 2017 iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards has a little bit of something for everyone as the corner of Queen and John once again hosts another epic and unforgettable night,” Nanci MacLean, the Vice President of Bell Media Studios, said in an official statement.
Following the announcement, Much Music host and E-Talk presenter Liz Trinnear spoke to some of the performers about what their fans can expect to see when they take to the stage on the big night.
Singer and songwriter Lorde previously performed at the show back in 2014 and when asked about her upcoming return to the Canadian stage, she said, “I had so much fun before. It was an incredible energy to do an awards show performance on an outdoor stage and it is going to be awesome to be able to come back with a really special and interesting performance.”
While funky quartet and fan favourites DNCE told Liz, “It has been a while since we’ve been over to Canada to play a show but to come back to play at such an amazing awards show is going to be a blast.”
Although the band are expected to perform their newest single, “Kissing Strangers,” at the event, it isn’t exactly their first time at the rodeo. Front-man Joe Jonas previously hosted it with his famous brothers back in 2009!
Upon remembering this, Joe told Liz that he loves how fan-centric the event is. He said, “I like how the audience is really engaged in the show. There’s nothing else like it so we are going to try to utilize as much of the stage and audience as we can for our performance.”
Imagine Dragons are also excited to return to Canada for their second iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards performance while Julia Michaels, Iggy Azalea, and Jazz Cartier will be performing for the first time.
Make sure you tune in to Much, CTV, and VRAK to catch the show when it airs live from Toronto on Sunday 18th June at 9pm ET/6pm CT. You can also stream it live from the iHeartRadio app and across nine Virgin radio stations so there is really no excuse to miss it!
