Written by PiPEllA, “Castles” is an absolutely gorgeous piece of work that is bound to hit every listener right in the heart. Vocals on point from the very first few seconds, PiPEllA does not disappoint, unlocking buried emotions that sends chills to the listener. In story tale fashion, PiPEllA shines as the lyrics delve into the disillusion of realising that your happy ending was just a fantasy. Building the track up progressively with her incredible story, she keeps the subtle production of the piano, adding a melancholy atmosphere, whilst intensifying various other instruments such as the violin and the drums to accumulate this heartbreak storytelling anthem into one of anger. This is one of those tracks that are highly relatable and one we’re all going to be listening to again and again.
Talking about “Castles”, PiPEllA said: “I wrote this song for Cinderella from Into The Woods and Lagertha from Vikings and all of my favorite heroines who get the worse end of the deal but never really got to rage about it.”
Mentioning the heroine in their story, she continued by saying, “Her trust and the illusions she’s built up are broken slowly as the story progresses. That’s why the song is not overwhelmingly passionate; I wanted it to break your heart in a way that’s subtle.”
