Anyone who has been keeping up to date with the newest films that have come out the past few months will know that the biopic movie of frontman of the legendary Rock band QUEEN, Freddie Mercury, has been blowing audiences away, especially by the stellar performance by Rami Malek as Mercury. He recently earned the award for BAFTA for best actor, today at CelebMix we are going to discuss why.

The BAFTAs are a huge night for any actor big or small, anyone nominated for one of these prestigious awards will know just how much of a big deal it is. Stars as big as Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale were nominated for the best actor award but it was given to Rami Malek after an uncanny and emotional performance as Queen’s lead singer

Rami Malek was not a hugely known actor among viewers, his only main performance before Bohemian Rhapsody was the leading role in “Mr. Robot.” Of Course Malek had some pretty huge shoes to fill to play such an incredible musician and vocalist, but after seeing him play Mercury, many people believed he blew the performance out of the water and truly became Freddie Mercury.

From his overall look and mannerisms, audiences believed that Freddie was in the room. The overbite given to Malek truly gave him the iconic Mercury look. Just looking at side by side pictures of this young actor next to the musical legend, people can be very confused about who is who. The chemistry with all of his bandmates was just beautiful and captured perfectly how Queen was not just a band, but a family. In terms of how he acted, Malek showed off the huge character and personality of Mercury, from the way he talked (addressing nearly everyone as “darling”) to the way he literally stomped and pranced on the stage, you could feel Freddie’s spirit in the cinema.

Rami also portrayed the sensitive side of Mercury, as he came to terms with his sexuality and somewhat strained relationship with his father and how he obviously wanted to chase his dream of being a performer but his father wanted so much more from him. The parts that hit the fans very hard was Freddie’s AIDS diagnosis, although any fan or music follower knew Mercury’s heartbreaking fate before they watched the film, it was still very upsetting to watch, even when he revealed it to the band, you could feel the heartbreak and sorrow from the audience. Of course, the most memorable part of the film was “Live Aid.” There was not a dry eye in the house as Malek truly became Freddie Mercury, the performance was practically identical! As each song was played, the goosebumps were unavoidable and shivers were going down everyone’s spines. Malek truly became Freddie Mercury and audiences didn’t want “Live Aid” to end.

As we said before, the BAFTAs are for the biggest actors and also actors who have made the biggest impact on the screen. After seeing Rami Malek’s performance as Mercury on the big screen, we truly believe his win was well-deserved and Freddie would have been so proud. Watching Rami give Queen’s guitarist Brian May a hug before receiving his award was a huge and heartfelt moment. Once again from all of us from CelebMix, congratulations to Rami Malek!

If you haven’t had the chance to see Bohemian Rhapsody, we seriously recommend it! The trailer is down bellow!
