Get ready to feel a lot of nostalgia because one of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows, Rocko’s Modern Life is coming back!

On Thursday, Nickelodeon announced that a movie based on the 90’s cartoon will air on TV. The creator of Rocko’s Modern Life, Joe Murray, will return as the executive producer and director of the one-hour special.

The show originally aired from 1993-1996, with four seasons. It focused on the protagonist, Rocko, who is an Australian wallaby living in O-Town with his dog, Spunky. He is also accompanied by his two friends, Heffer Wolfe and Filburt.

The show gained popularity because of its references to 90’s culture. It also used satire to highlight the social issues of the time.

The show’s creator, Joe Murray, states:

What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it’s not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after twenty years, they can’t wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century. They still have a lot to say.

The good news doesn’t stop there! Other classic Nickelodeon shows are also returning! Just a few weeks ago at San Diego Comic-Con, Hey Arnold! creator Craig Bartlett made a huge announcement. He confirmed that a new movie titled, Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie is making its debut next year for the Thanksgiving holiday. Nickelodeon’s Legend of The Hidden Temple is also returning with a movie!

Chris Viscardi of Nickelodeon Franchise Properties, reports to Entertainment Weekly:

Greenlighting a Rocko’s Modern Life special is another strong example of how we are bringing our library content back for both new audiences and the generation that grew up on them in the ’90s. It’s a testament to the strength and appeal of these characters that so many people have loved Nick animation for these last 25 years, and we are excited to bring them back for new stories and adventures.

The news of a Rocko’s Modern Life movie arrives on the 25th anniversary that other Nickelodeon shows- Rugrats, The Ren & Stimpy Show and Doug originally launched on the network.

Are you going to watch the one-hour special? What do you think Rocko will have to say about life in the 21st century? Tweet us your thoughts at @CelebMix!
