Last year’s X Factor runner-up Saara Aalto is representing her home country Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018.

Aalto has previously competed twice in the Finnish national selection, Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, where she placed second both times. This year, however, the Finnish broadcaster, YLE, has chosen to change the process of choosing their representative.
The process this year will consist of Aalto performing three songs. The viewers and an international jury will then decide which of the songs Aalto will perform at the Eurovision in Lisbon, Portugal in 2018.
“I know that this journey is going to be fantastic regardless of the results of the actual competition,” Saara Aalto says. She jokes, “I’m of course jumping right in with the attitude that I can win the Eurovision Song Contest – or at least finish in second place! That’s something I’ve been great at, no doubt about it.”
Aalto also further comments on the fact that both she and the Finnish team are very optimistic about their entry. “This is going to be a superb experience for the whole of Finland! I have a strong Finnish and international team with me, together we’re able to make great things happen,” she says.
