After teasing their collab on social media for the past week, Sam Smith and Normani have unveiled their sultry new collaboration ‘Dancing With A Stranger’, and it’s everything we hoped for and more.
Bringing together Sam’s distinct vocals and Normani’s captivating tones, ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ is a mid-tempo RnB offering with a slick old-school vibe. The smouldering track reflects on moving forward following a breakup, with Sam stating that “it bottles everything I was feeling whilst juggling my personal life and touring”.
“Look what you made me do/I’m with somebody new/oh baby baby I’m dancing with a stranger”
‘Dancing With A Stranger’ – Sam Smith and Normani
Whilst it’s no secret that Sam and Normani are big fans of each other (remember that iconic Carpool Karaoke moment when Fifth Harmony surprised Sam?!), however, this collaboration came about following a chance encounter.
Sam was busy working on new material in a Los Angeles studio during a short break from his Thrill of It All world tour in September. Normani happened to be recording in the same studio at the same time, and the rest is history. We love it when our favourites cross paths, especially if it leads to an incredible collaboration!

‘Dancing With A Stranger’ follows on from Sam’s December release ‘Fire On Fire’, taken from the Netflix reboot of Watership Down. The track is also the latest offering from Normani, after she treated us to ‘Waves’ featuring 6LACK and two Calvin Harris collaborations at the end of 2018.
Sam and Normani are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart – we have high hopes that ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ marks the start of a very special year for both artists.
