Evocative British singer / songwriter Sam Tompkins expresses a yearning, and palpable desire to be released from the shackles of pain today (April 16th) with the release of his latest single, ‘numb’.
Serving as the third offering to be lifted from his upcoming debut album ‘hi, my name is insecure’, the emotionally charged track finds a fraught Sam trapped in a place of despair, overwhelmed by feelings of anguish and grief, and pleading with the universe to free him from the clutches of a seemingly never-ending sense of sorrow.
Of the lyrical meaning, and message the ‘lose it all’ singer hopes to convey via the arresting song, Tompkins says: “‘numb’ is all about the feeling of wanting to feel nothing at all. Sometimes when you’re struggling that’s the only thing you want. An escape. That’s what I want this song to be… something you can scream in the car or in your room when you feel like the world’s not listening. I really hope people like it.”

Scheduled to drop via Island Records later in the year, ‘hi, my name is insecure’ sees Sam team up with Pablo Bowman (Calvin Harris, James Arthur, Jonas Brothers), as well as writer and producer Danny Casio (Little Mix, Joy Crookes, Tom Grennan, Rudimental), to create a body of work that serves to reflect the singers journey to get to where he is today.
Featuring the hit singles, ‘someone else’, ‘time will fly’, ‘see me’, ‘lose it all’ and ‘phones in heaven’, the highly anticipated record is available to pre-order now.
In lead up to the projects release Tompkins will serve as support act for Australian artist Kid Laroi on his UK & European tour throughout April, tickets for which are on-sale here.
