Warner Bros. brought some of our favorite characters to life during San Diego Comic Con 2019. Whether you waited in line for Detective Pikachu or Shazam! located right outside the convention center, it was well worth the wait.
Upon entering the activation for Detective Pikachu, we find ourselves stepping into a yellow subway car with fuzzy seats; very closely resembling a Pikachu. As you exit the subway car, you find yourself outside on the city streets of Ryme City in which you are able to meet a real life Psyduck! You then whisk your way into a movie theater in which the marquee reads Mr. Mime One Night Only.
Once you enter the theater, you’re in the middle of Ryme City’s marketplace with busy crowds passing you by (not actual people!). After some time at the market, you’re transported into the office of Howard Clifford, the founder of Ryme City. Mr. Clifford’s office is filled with props from the film including various evolution stones that Pokémon use to evolve, items that are typically held by Pokémon in the video games that improve the stats of the holder and even Detective Pickachu’s official police badge. You even sneak a peek at Mewtwo flying ominously behind Mr. Clifford’s desk. Near the end, a hall of mirrors gave us major Us vibes as you make your way to the exit.
Upon leaving the activation, attendees received a plethora of free movie swag ranging anywhere from Pickachu ears headband, a drawstring bag, a ring, a pop-socket with Detective Pickachu’s face, and a comic adaptation of the film.
Once you finished up with Detective Pikachu, right next door you can make your way to score some sweet prizes inside the Chilladelphia Winter Carnival. Winter in San Diego in the middle of summer? Who knew?
As you inch your way to the ticket booth, each person was given one ticket to play a carnival game of their choice: basketball, fishing, a ring toss and a bean bag toss.
Prizes that were given away included a Shazam! foam finger, a fanny-pack, a shirt with the Shazam! logo and a variety of stuffed animals.
Detective Pikachu and Shazam! are now available to own from select digital retailers including Amazon, AppleTV, FandangoNOW, Xbox and more. (Stay tuned for POKÉMON Detective Pikachu to be available digitally on Video on Demand services from cable and satellite providers on August 6).
