This song really is a delicate daydream. Shawn Mendes has released his new single, “Summer of Love,” on Friday, August 20.
The song was written and produced by Mendes, Tainy and Scott Harris, who said in a livestream before the song dropped that more music is on the way this year.
He has been teasing the song for about a week and announced it on his 23rd birthday. “Summer of Love” is the perfect song for the Summer and we wish we had it earlier in the season, but it is definitely going to be on repeat.
The song describes his Summer with girlfriend, Camila Cabello, reflecting on how they had time to spend together in quarantine and it made them feel like they were 18 again.
The video was shot in Mallorca, Spain and you can definitely hear the spanish roots in the song from the music and beat to the lyrics “calling you my Senorita.” The music video shows Shawn and friends hanging out in Spain on a boat, playing guitar and dancing in a bar, everything that you love to do in the Summer.
“Summer of Love” is the follow-up to Mendes’ 2020 album, Wonder, which even though it has a different tune, the message is still the same- he is happy and so in love.
He hosted a pop-up shop in New York City on August 19, where fans got to buy merchandise for the song and meet him. Fans lined the streets to get a picture with the Canadian singer.
Many fans are wondering when a tour will be announced and Mendes keeps promising “soon and that he cannot wait to perform this song live.” Keep an eye out on his socials and website for that announcement.
In the meantime, be sure to stream “Summer of Love,” which is available on all platforms.
