This week has seen a lot of new music released; however, we’ve been waiting for Sierra Deaton to release her debut single, and now she has. Under a whole new stage name, she has dropped “Don’t Hurt”.

Her new name, Essy, was chosen as she wanted something new to describe this brand new project and it has always been a nickname for her since she couldn’t say her own name when she was younger – as she explained in a tweet.

This is her first ever solo release away from Alex & Sierra, who have officially broken up and gone their separate ways. As a duo, who also consisted of Alex Kinsey, they scored amazing achievements including winning the third and final season of The X Factor (US). They went on to release an album, an EP, and a couple of singles and promotional singles. Now, on her own, she’s going forward releasing her own music, something she’s so passionate about. It’s great to see her have this renewed confidence.

Talking to Billboard about the song, Sierra Deaton said: “I hope people can take away the idea that sometimes it is best for a relationship to be over. If someone isn’t meant to be your best friend anymore that’s fine. Honestly, at first, I wanted to give up. I thought everything was over, just in general. For my music career. I didn’t think I had any friends. There was a long period of time where I really gave up and wasn’t doing much of anything at all. It was a lot of laying in bed feeling sorry for myself. Now I’ve reached a point in my life where I absolutely believe it was all for the best and I’m the happiest I’ve been in so long.”

Listen To Essy’s Debut Single “Don’t Hurt” Here:

The song is undeniably catchy, one that we end up singing along by the end of the track; this easily makes us replay the track just so we can learn more of the words. Essy brings it like we know she can; stripped away from Alex Kinsey, she really shows off her new style, her awesome vocals, and her passion for this new direction.

Proving she has what it takes to become an in-demand female singer, Essy brings her effortless emotional singing, which we first saw in the Alex & Sierra tracks, to this upbeat, addicting anthem. It’s clear what and who the song is about, with Essy using her real experience of being split from her ex to create this awesome track.

“Don’t Hurt” has been released through Human Re Source and is available to download and stream right now.
