The release date for Simple Plan’s long-awaited album Taking One For The Team is fast approaching, and anticipation is quickly rising. Until February 19th, we’ll be rocking out to a new single, “Opinion Overload”!
After releasing Get Your Heart On in 2011, the band started getting criticism for starting to sound “too pop” both literally and lyrically as opposed to pop-punk. Now, “Opinion Overload” has put Simple Plan back in the hearts (and iPods) of avid listeners with both a new song and a music video to go with it.
“Opinion Overload” is exactly what you think it’s about: Hearing the thoughts of other people out to tear you down way too much. It’s one of the most relatable pop-punk song themes out there. It’s dynamic youthful defiance, and we’re loving it. They’ve gone back to their roots, with a new song sounding like it could fit right into Still Not Getting Any… which was released over a decade ago in 2004!
The music video switches between shots of the band rocking out at a packed concert and others of frontman Pierre Bouvier singing in front of a wall covered in past Simple Plan tour posters, almost symbolic by showing that after all these years, they’re still the same band. The crowd in the music video is actually made up of Simple Plan fans invited to be at the video shoot! How cool is that?
