With Christmas just around the corner, we’re getting into the festive spirit and bringing you along for the journey. In the first of our series of Christmas themed articles we’re sharing five of our favourite Christmas original tracks from artists which you know and love.
Scouting For Girls – Christmas In The Air (Tonight)
Back in 2015 the feel-good trio decided to delve into the realms of Christmas songs and have smashed it with Christmas In The Air (Tonight). With a Christmassy video to match it’s a typical SFG song featuring a big, singalong chorus and a sense of feeling really good when listening to the track as you imagine walking around your hometown. Christmas is a time for friends and family, which has been captured perfectly through the visuals and lyrics as ‘there’s a little bit of Christmas in the air’ sums up every day since the 1st December!
The Vamps – Hoping For Snow
At CelebMix we’re regularly keeping you up to date with new things The Vamps are doing but this track is taken from the reworked version of 2014 debut album Meet The Vamps is a golden oldie. The album featured a mix of Christmas covers and originals but Hoping For Snow is our favourite. Flaunting the perfect combination needed for a Christmas song it’s got scene setting lyrics, jolly guitar lines and a catchy beat you’ll struggle to not let get beneath your skin especially as there are some Last Christmas vibes here. We’d love The Vamps to release even more Christmas originals and they’re absolutely great at it; if you’re a The Vamps fan get this on your playlist pronto.
Ariana Grande – Santa Tell Me
How could we not include Ariana Grande in this list? Having just announced a mammoth set of tour dates in support of Sweetener we know it’s going to be a great Christmas for her fans so why not soundtrack it with this sweet Christmas track. The jingle of Christmas bells throughout feels like a traditional festive track, rather than a modern original which we love. With her unique vocals, this screams out authentic Ariana with a video showing her having a great time with friends, a funky hat and cosy gloves which we’re a little jealous of.
New Hope Club – Whoever He Is
New Hope Club released this festive original last year, singing of falling out of love and missing that special someone at what’s meant to be the best time of the year. The simple guitar lines have a festive jingle undertone makes for beautiful listening as the trio sing of wanting them to be happy with someone else ‘whoever he is’. We’ve got New Hope Club’s great complimentary vocals and the video shows them having a great time in the studio with Brad Simpson of The Vamps who helped produced and co-wrote in the video for the track. Interesting fact Joe O’Neill; New Hope Club and The Vamps manager helped to write this fun, festive number.
Katy Perry – Cozy Little Christmas
Last month Katy Perry gave fans an early Christmas treat with her original Christmas track, it’s very different to what we’re used to from the singer but change is never bad. Showing her having a great time in Copenhagen celebrating Christmas, it sings of just wanting a cosy little Christmas with those who’re special to you rather than a load of material possessions. It’s singing about the real importance of Christmas and we just want to sing along even if we can’t reach those high notes…
Coldplay – Christmas Lights
Now for something a little different to the others, Coldplay have the ability to make magical, memorable tracks with videos to captivate your mind and this is no exception. The piano-led track tells a story of losing someone close to you and trying to find ways to get over it during Christmas, but it doesn’t really feel like Christmas at all. Paying homage to the beautiful Christmas lights of London, known for their iconic styles and brilliant selfie excuse, you want to grab a friend and have a singalong to this track whilst walking down Oxford Street taking in all the sights. This is another example of Coldplay at their best and we’ll be listening to this a lot over Christmas for sure!
There are plenty more great Christmas original tracks out there and we’d love to know which are your favourites. Tweet us @CelebMix to let us know so we can add them to our Spotify playlists!
