At its eighth event on the 27th and 28th of October, the Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television Arts and Sports Awards (BEFFTA) awarded people of colour for their contributions to the mentioned industries.
Category winners of 2016 include:
- Solomon Taiwo Justified for the Rising Star award. He has been involved with projects such as the film Troy and an upcoming new web-series about World War Two. You can read our exclusive interview with Solomon here.
- Ibitola Ojoye Adebayo for the Best Author award. She wrote the novel Acceptance, a story about love and loss in a war. Read more about the book here.
- DJ Mind D Gap for the UK DJ of the Year award. He helps run the Mind d Gap radio station, which features R&B and Gospel music. Tune in here.
Other categories included: Best Act (Music), Best Music Producer, Radio Station of the Year, Best Cultural Organisation and Best Fashion Designers. For the full list of nominees and their categories, head over to the BEFFTA website.
It’s high time that the entertainment industry acknowledged the people of colour who are working hard to make our screens, radios and runways more successful and diverse. We’re glad that these fantastic nominees and winners have received acknowledgements for their achievements in their respective fields.
