On Friday the 28th April South Korean singer and songwriter, WVVE (pronounced ‘wave’) released her debut single “Sweet Like Sugar”.
In the past she was a backup singer for one of South Korea’s biggest pop stars IU. She has also attended the prestigious Seoul Institute of the Arts. Now she is ready to show the world her own music.
“Sweet Like Sugar” is part of a collaboration between Seoul Institute of the Arts and JChung Mgmt. The collaboration seeks to give opportunities to rising creatives of kinds.
The track itself is a sunny and charming ode to new love, capturing the breezy feeling of falling in love with someone new. An extra layer of depth is added the the song as her Korean to English vocals blend seamlessly.
WVVE said that within the track, “Using both the Korean and English language, ‘Sweet Like Sugar’ displays the true beauty and stimulating feelings of falling in love.”
It is the perfect summer track, with a music video that perfectly captures the playful and carefree feeling of the song, adding an extra layer of visual appeal to an already impressive debut.
WVVE provides a different sound to the usual mainstream K-Pop sound. “Sweet Like Sugar” is a easy listening song with a catchy sound. “Sweet Like Sugar” was produced by Jordan Lewis who has worked on tracks by international artists like Drake and Travis Scott. With the track being engineered by Thomas Ross Johansen who has worked on tracks by household names Bruno Mars and Sir Elton John.
WVVE is definitely an artist to watch out for. With South Korean culture being very popular, she has a high chance of taking the world by storm. We can not wait to hear and see what is next for her.
