Taylor Swift never stops giving to the people she loves and consistently shows just how golden her heart is. On the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Taylor surprised Jimmy with a performance of a brand new song from her ‘Reputation’ album called ‘New Years Day’; in memory of his mother, Gloria, who has recently passed.
A producer who works alongside Jimmy has recently opened up about the beautiful coincidence that had the audience, crew and Jimmy in tears.
Taylor debuted ‘New Years Day’ shortly after Jimmy told the audience a moving story about his mother, which was then mentioned in Taylor’s performance.
“She would squeeze my hand three times and say, ‘I love you’. I would squeeze back ‘I love you, too’. Last week, I was in the hospital, and I grabbed her and squeezed her hand and said, ‘I love you.’ I just knew we were in trouble.”
Producer, Mike DiCenzo, later tweeted about the personal story unexpectedly being the perfect lead for the song on this occasion.
She sang "New Year's Day." No one had heard it. Suddenly she sings the line, "Squeeze my hand 3 times in the back of the taxi." I nearly gasped. Tears. I think everyone in the audience started sobbing.

That hug between Jimmy and Taylor after the song was 100% real emotion. Whatever you think of Taylor, she did something beautiful for Jimmy and our show today, and we're forever grateful.

One last note: our show was right on time today, but we edited out a minute to leave room for Jimmy high-fiving audience members during the end credits. It was Gloria's favorite part of the show.
