Southern California born and bred singer, songwriter, musician, and producer John Kunkel formed his musical project The New Division in 2012. Since then, the artist has risen to success as one of the most admired synth pop artists of his time. His latest single “One Day” is a dance-driven synth-wave banger and is shared with a unique graphic music video.
“One Day” is a song about trying to reconnect with old friends. He confides, “In the song, the disconnect is really dramatic, but on a personal level I think the idea for the song came about when I was randomly going through my phone’s contact list and realizing how I’ve lost connection with so many people over the years. What would happen if I just randomly picked up the phone and called them? Would I want to talk to them? Would they want to talk to me?” The track highlights a Prophet-5 synth sound and intoxicating beats. Kunkel’s honeyed vocals glide effortlessly to a climatic chorus for an enthralling listen. The visuals were made by the talented artist Pau Lara and center around the theme of interconnection.
The New Division blends electronic, synth pop, dream wave and rock for a melding sound all of their own.
