Charitable hearts most often come from loving starts and that is definitely the case with the Tomlinson-Deakin family. When Louis Tomlinson made his mark as part of One Direction and the world was suddenly at his feet – he did with his fame something extraordinary. Louis used his stardom to find ways to give back, and he did so without asking for recognition. If you think Louis’ heart is giving, you’re absolutely right, but what you may not know is how his entire family works to make a difference in any way that they can.
Louis is the oldest of six siblings, two being so young that they haven’t quite figured out how to use their voices for change and to promote acceptance (although we know it’s only a matter of years until they do), the other four – Lottie, Fizzy, Phoebe, and Daisy have all used various platforms on social media and in their community that have served to make a difference.
In 2014, Louis’ little sisters took part in a Color Dash for Bluebell Wood. Lottie spoke and said they first heard of the charity after her brother’s involvement in it and felt honored to be part of it themselves. Along with signing up for the run, the girls all modeled fun accessories that participants could buy! The excitement shown by Louis’ little sisters to raise money and awareness for Bluebell Wood was a true show of how giving their entire family is.
Daisy and Phoebe may be young but they’re already showing signs of being unstoppable forces. They take part in various charity events with Louis (most recently the Believe In Magic ball) and have stood in his place when he couldn’t be there (they were with Johannah when she went to spend time with Harvey Hext and his family as his time on earth drew to an end) and they’ve been part of their own special events that included charity events as well.
On February 1st Daisy and Phoebe were part of a private screening of Capture The Flag and instead of just spending the day enjoying it themselves – they invited a special guest along to their day. With the help of Believe In Magic Daisy and Phoebe were joined by Chloe Balloqui for an unforgettable afternoon.
Felicite Tomlinson, or Fizzy, is also a force to be reckoned with as she follows in Louis’ footsteps. One of the best things about her is a trait she shares with her big brother, one he made on The James Corden Show – “I’ve got a bit of a problem biting me tongue”. Fizzy does not hesitate to share her opinion and views – and being so young and so sure of where you stand is a trait to be admired.
Fizzy speaks out about social issues, equality, and acceptance on her social media platforms where she has hundreds of thousands of followers.
Using your voice may not seem like a courageous act to some, but in a day and age where you are ridiculed for everything from what you wear to what you say – Fizzy shows that being who you are is important. She also shows that supporting others is the best place to start if you want to make a difference, speaking on equality and feminism quite frequently.
Most recently she spoke out about Kesha and her incredibly troubling situation with Dr. Luke and Sony.
Fizzy asked for unity to stand up against one of the biggest forces in music and to do so to not only help one woman, but to bring people who say they’re feminists and that women deserve respect together so that no one else has to suffer at the same hands Kesha did. On the same topic she also spoke out against the man who was planning pro-rape meetings across America who then said he was too scared to go through with them.
Not only does she speak out for what she believes in, she supports Louis in his charity events and stands to be an incredible role model for her younger siblings.
Lottie Tomlinson is making big moves on her own at the same time she shows not only her younger siblings, but young women everywhere that if you have a dream – you should follow it.
Lottie reached out to One Direction’s stylist and asked for a job, and a job is what she got. Even though she’s Louis’ little sis, she had to work to earn her keep and she said she’s done everything to make sure she deserves what she’s able to embrace.
Among chasing her dreams and working for them – she’s supporting her brother while out on the road and at his numerous functions and charity events as well. Lottie has also taken to social media – like Fizzy – and used her voice to inspire others to be themselves, no matter what that means to them. If you go to Lottie’s twitter account you’ll see lots of retweets of fans who have been inspired to try her make up and hair trends and while to some, that may seem like a small gesture – it’s huge when you are actually part of why someone feels comfortable being themselves. There are so many insecure girls in this world that are always trying to meet seemingly impossible standards – it’s nice to see Lottie be herself and inspire others to do the same.
She’s worked so hard that she’s now partnered with Ghost Fragrances for a new scent, worked at London Fashion Week and will be touring with Selena Gomez in 2016 as her makeup artist. Lottie is a show of what happens when you work hard and believe in yourself.
Johannah Deakin is many things, most importantly – she’s a mum who believes in her children, and there’s nothing more special than that. She also is the core of the family, the one who taught the lovely kids we’ve grown to know and appreciate all they know about giving, love, and compassion.
Johannah has fearlessly supported her children through everything, and as she sent Louis off to chase his dreams years ago, she had no idea he’d be on the road for the next five years – or that fame would change their lives forever. For five years she’s watched Louis change the world, save people from themselves and the world around them, but she’s also watched the world Louis exists in try to change him. She’s seen the headlines, the fallacies, the untruths – and through all the bad, she’s seen her son stand tall with confidence that his heart speaks louder than anything that stands against him. She instilled that belief in him since he was young.
Johannah has also supported Louis in all of his charity endeavors, stood in his place when he was on the road but still wanted to contribute, and has brought him to families that needed hope, cheer, and kindness – knowing that her son could offer all of those and then some. She has organized parties and balls for children to take them out of their pain and suffering for an afternoon and to make them feel like they were on top of the world. She’s sat with families as their time with their children grew to a close and been a beacon of comfort for them – she’s given her heart to others just as Louis has, and never expected anything in return.
If you’ve heard of The Eden Dora Trust, Believe In Magic, Harvey Hext‘s Story or most recently, Niamh’s Next Step (just to name a few) – you know that Johannah manages a family at the same time she tries to impact the lives of as many others as she possibly can. It’s inspiring to see this in herself and to see how her children have all grown to mirror her actions.
When you take a moment and appreciate all that Louis and his family have done with his circumstance, it’s easy to have hope that big hearts exist in this world and that they win. It’s easy to believe that love overpowers hate and kindness shines brighter than disdain, and that when people have the chance to be nice – most often, they will be.
