After the release of ‘Pocket Dial’ last week, Marcs & Martinus debut their long-awaited EP.
Entitled Soon after months of dodging fans’ pleas for new music with the response, “soon”, the EP sees the duo welcome in a new Marcus & Martinus sound. A year and a half on from the twins’ acclaimed third studio album, Moments, which spawned hit singles ‘Make You Believe In Love’ and ‘Like It Like It’ amongst others, as well as a sell-out European tour – Soon has been a long time coming.
A new sound which sees Marcus & Martinus take the songwriting reigns more than ever before, fans can hear the 17-year-olds growing into artists in their own right. CelebMix breaks down the EP, track-by-track…
1. ‘Pocket Dial’
Lead single, ‘Pocket Dial’ is the EP’s most stripped-back moment. “I didn’t mean to call but you had a choice, to pick up when I pocket dialled you again”, the twins sing as they try and reach a love interest on the end of the line. Linking up with songwriter extraordinaire Tayla Parx, who has worked with everyone from Ariana Grande to BTS to Jennifer Lopez, it’s deliciously simple pop. Almost acoustic in production, ‘Pocket Dial’ kicks off the EP with Marcus & Martinus’ vocals at the forefront.
2. ‘Fix You’
“I can’t fix you, and you know that I tried” Marcus & Martinus sing as they let go a girl who “can’t see wrong from right”. With sultry electropop production, almost a more mature sounding ‘Please Don’t Go’, it’s a track begging for an infamous Marcus & Martinus dance routine.
3. ‘Let Me Go ‘
Proceedings speed up for ‘Let Me Go’, as Marcus & Martinus give the ultimatum of “love me or let me go”. Parx has played a role again and Calle Lehmann also helps out on the writing, his EDM background with the likes of Galantis and AlunaGeorge bubbling through on ‘Let Me Go’.
4. ‘Wild Love’
A track that wouldn’t have been misplaced on Moments, Marcus & Martinus are back to their jazzy pop on ‘Wild Love’. Destined to burst to life at the duo’s string of live shows this summer, it’s clicks of percussion and cheeky lyrics are a sure hit with fans.
5. ‘Invited’
2018 single ‘Invited’ rounds off Soon. A hit that has already found a special place in fans’ hearts, it’s really Marcus & Martinus at their best. Catchy, upbeat and an instant hit, its inclusion is a welcome throwback.
