Fans of The Office are rejoicing as Ricky Gervais has shared the first trailer for the David Brent: Life On The Road film.
Gervais, who stars as Brent and has also written and directed the film, tweeted the first look at the trailer earlier today. The feature film catches up with Brent over 12 years after the last outing to The Office and finds him working as a sales rep for a “Slough based cleaning products distributor” called Lavichem. Of course, not content with being just a sales rep, Brent is also trying to live the rockstar dream with his band Foregone Conclusion.
Whilst the film has been shot in the same ‘mockumentary’ style as The Office, fans of the original show might be disappointed to know that none of the original cast will appear in the movie. Martin Freeman, who played Tim in the TV series, previously revealed he was not asked to be a part of the film. He told The Sun: “I think it’s right that I’ve not been asked. I’m not a big fan of reunions. I don’t think they’re ever as good as the first one.”
Gervais has also worked on this project without Stephen Merchant, who was his co-writer/director during The Office. Despite flying solo for this movie, Gervais has expressed his excitement, stating: “I’m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies. This film delves much more into his private life than The Office ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.”
The film is due for release in the UK on August 19.
