A first top 40 Billboard hit is always a great achievement, especially for new artists! While 2015 remained a great year for the South-African born artist, 2016 will surely be more huge for him!
His studio album, Blue Neighborhood, which received universal acclaim (Rolling Stone Aus. – 4 Stars, The Guardian – 5 Stars) debuted in the top 10 in the U.S., Australia, Sweden, and New Zealand! While the record was released towards the latter half of the year, it still earned him a spot on the ARIA end of year charts (placed at #67).
He also earned a GLAAD nomination for Outstanding Artist, along with Adam Lambert and Miley Cyrus!
Now, onto more great facts – his dream-pop single ‘Youth’ has just in the last 24 hours entered the top 40 (#38) on U.S. iTunes. Spotify counts show ‘Youth’ at #22, meaning there are a great number of people listening/streaming to the single!
‘Youth’s current peak on the official Billboard Hot 100 chart is 80, so it is expected to rise on the next chart release. His sales week (for the week ending 2/25), is estimated to be around 11k to 15k units meaning a overall 28 percent increase for the week.
So if the movement and radio play remains consistent, then you can say hello to a top 40 hit in ‘Youth’. The single has already been certified Gold in Australia and New Zealand as well so we won’t be surprised when it gets certified Gold in the U.S. as well.
