Slovenian techno legend UMEK drops his latest single, “Hypnotizing,” with Dutch producer Maddix. “Hypnotizing” marks not only the 300th release on his label 1605 but also 30 years on the music scene.

In 1993, UMEK arrived on the electronic music scene as a DJ. One of the first creators of dance music in Slovenia, by 2001 his unique techno sound had made him famous in Europe. Since then, UMEK has released scores of singles, EPs, and multiple albums.
His hits include “Vibrancy,” “Cryptic Speech,” and “Amnesiac,” amassing tens of millions of streams. UMEK has performed around the globe, from underground clubs in Berlin to huge techno stages at the world’s elite festivals. Most of his tracks ascend to the top of Beatport’s charts.
In 2007, UMEK founded the tech-house label 1605, which has hundreds of artists on its roster. In 2015, he co-founded Viberate, an independent artist-focused platform.
“Hypnotizing” opens on a mesmerizing thumping rhythm highlighted by a driving bassline. Waves of syncopating synths pulsate overhead, infusing the tune with shimmering, percolating surfaces. A descending bridge shifts the flow, adding haunting vocals riding diaphanous textures.
Dark and portentous, built around a massive beat, “Hypnotizing” unleashes a thrumming, thrill-ride of techno-house music.
