Ed Sheeran has spent 14 weeks at the top of the UK Album chart this year, but it seems that he just might be dethroned this week thanks to The Vamps.

The four-piece band released their third album Night & Day (Night Edition) on Friday and are currently ahead of Ed’s Divide in the midweek chart by two to one, as announced by the Official Charts Company. If the band can hold onto their lead, they will be celebrating their first ever UK number one album.

Speaking about the chart battle, The Vamps said: “It’s crazy to be challenging Ed for the #1 spot! We know it’s going to be super close but we can never doubt our fans and the dedication and perseverance they show! We can’t thank them enough for helping us get the number one spot in the first midweek. It really means the world to us!”

The Vamps have been busy promoting the album all week, starting off with a shift at HMV Oxford Street where they sold copies of the album to fans. The band also opened their own pop up shop in Brick Lane, performed on The One Show and are currently on a signing tour across the country. Brad, Connor, James and Tris also recently rounded off an up close and personal tour which showcased the album tracks ahead of its release.

Last night, The Vamps performed ‘Middle of the Night’ live on The Voice Kids UK Final. They delivered an electric performance which demonstrated why they’re one of the most exciting bands to emerge in recent years.

Night & Day has also received great success across the world. Upon its release, it went straight into the iTunes top 10 chart in over 20 countries, including Argentina, Philippines, India and Australia.

We wish The Vamps the best of luck for the rest of the week and would love to see them claim their first ever UK number one album! Check out our review of Night and Day (Night Edition) here and stream the album on Spotify or grab a copy on iTunes or their official store.
