After what felt like a lifetime away, British songstress Jessie J made a welcome return with her new track, ‘Real Deal’ on August 11. Since its release, she has teased several video clips on Instagram. Now it’s time to watch the music video in all its glory!
Whilst the clips hinted towards a full on music video, what we’ve actually been treated to is a lyric video. The visual features the song lyrics in a handwritten format whilst we see Jessie driving round Los Angeles and chilling on a beach.
Directed by Jake Stark and produced by The Madden Brothers, the video has a cool vibe and signifies the start of a new era for Jessie J. It’s definitely a new kind of sound compared to what we expect from her, but it’s something great nonetheless.
Speaking to Forbes, Jessie clarified that ‘Real Deal’ is NOT the first new single from her forthcoming album. “This is like a warm-up. This is purely just something that I’ve done with M&M’s. But the song I wrote myself with a producer that’s produced my new record,” she said.
However, it does represent what we can expect from her future music. “It’s definitely in the vein of the new kind of, I want to say, era. That sounds so “Instagram.” But the vibe of the next phase of my life, in my career,” she added.
When JJ4 finally drops, it seems that we can expect a lot more realness from Jessie. She said: “The biggest difference with the new music is that it’s really celebrating the most important thing to me, which is my voice, and me as a lyricist. I honestly feel like I’m coming into my own, to really want to be one of the singers that are remembered forever. To sing music that I don’t feel like anyone else can sing, ‘cause it comes from a place that only I can sing from.”
