After making their comeback with ‘Sanctify’ in March, Years & Years have now released ‘If You’re Over Me’, the first official single from their forthcoming sophomore album Palo Santo.
Offering a poppier track in comparison to the previous album taster, ‘If You’re Over Me’ is an infectious ball of energy which sees frontman Olly Alexander dealing with a former lover who keeps sending mixed messages.
One minute you say we’re a team, then you’re telling me you can’t breathe
Well you should set me free, baby, if you’re over me
Yesterday you said I’m the one but now you say you’re done
Stop telling me what I need, baby, if you’re over me
Speaking about the track, Olly said: “This is a song about trying to stay friends with an ex. Spoiler alert – it doesn’t often work. In fact, in my experience, the relationship often ends up ruined. ‘If You’re Over Me’ is about the emotional torture that ensues – meeting up and making out, then breaking up all over again, then making out some more.”
Years & Years’ sophomore album Palo Santo is due for release on July 6. The trio recently announced the album alongside a trailer for their short film of the same name, narrated by the iconic Dame Judi Dench.
Years & Years will be celebrating the release of Palo Santo with an exclusive launch party at London’s Roundhouse on July 10. Tickets for the gig go on sale tomorrow (Friday May 11) at 9am. Click here for more information.
