“The real story has only just begun.” On April 4th, YouTube debuted the trailer for the second season of Cobra Kai, further developing the Karate Kid story, which originally began in 1984. Now decades after the events of the first film in the franchise, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) have formed a new rivalry, especially after the events of Cobra Kai‘s season 1, leaving fans shocked from its finale.
After Cobra Kai’s controversial win at the All Valley Championships, LaRusso decides to open a karate-training school of his own to compete against Lawrence’s. LaRusso’s school, Miyagi-Do, is named after his mentor Mr. Miyagi. From what we’ve seen in the trailer, the student has become the master, as LaRusso implements the same training Mr. Miyagi taught him on his own students.
Except unlike the original movies, this rivalry extends beyond just Lawrence or LaRusso. Their students begin to express the same feelings of rivalry, so much that the fight takes them outside of the ring and into their high school. With their karate teachers possessing different beliefs and teaching styles, the teens must decide which path to follow – Cobra Kai or Miyagi-Do?
Cobra Kai premieres on YouTube Premium on April 24th.
