In his first interview as a solo artist, Zayn Malik talked to The Fader and opened up about tons of things in his life, including One Direction’s Liam Payne. Zayn and Liam have always had one of the best friendships in the entire band. When they were put together in One Direction 5 years ago, they hit it off right from the beginning, so there’s no shock that they would one day talk again.
Speaking to The Fader, Zayn was asked where do he and One Direction stand now. “I spoke to Liam about two weeks ago,” Zayn said. “It was the first time I’d spoken to him since I left the band, and I rung him, and he wanted to talk. He said that he didn’t understand it at the time, but he now fully gets why I had to do what I did. He understands that it’s my thing, that I had to do that, and that basically he wants to meet up and sit down and have a good chat in person, and he wants to do some music and work on some stuff aside from being in the band, which we always wanted to do anyway.”
To show just how close Liam and Zayn once were and maybe still are, on One Direction’s 5th anniversary, Liam was the only who included Zayn in his anniversary tweet. He tweeted, “Wowwwww 5 years 5 boys what an amazing journey I couldn’t thank you all ever enough and thank you Louis Niall Harry and Zayn for everything. Thanks for all the memories boys I love you all.” Zayn replied to Liam by saying “thanks bro ! :) x”
Even though Liam and Zayn seem to be okay right now, last month Liam spoke to Idol Sweden about Zayn’s departure and he admitted that it wasn’t a very easy thing to accept. “It was a difficult time and it’s always difficult to lose a member of any team,” Liam said. “We got on well with Zayn, it’s his decision in the end, and he made it for the right reasons, for himself… We wish him the best of luck.” It’s nice to know that Zayn still has Liam’s support.
